get it togetherは 「うまくやる」といったような意味で使われます。いわゆる状況のitはここでは、不都合を指すと考えればいいかもしれません。togetherでその不都合をなんとかうまく合わせるといった感じでしょうか。We were planning to a trip to India, but we never got it together. (インド旅行を計画していたけれど、まったくうまくいかなかった)　We could not get it together to drive there. (ぼくたちはうまく車でそこへたどり着けなかった) The government can't seem to get it together on the environment.(政府は環境問題に関してはうまくやれないようだ）
